Hotel Review
Location
Roomzzz Aparthotel has a riverside location overlooking the River Ouse and is conveniently situated just a 15 minute walk from York Railway Station and close to all of the city’s main attractions.

Arrival and Check-in
Check-in is from 3.00 p.m. in the spacious lobby where we were welcomed with a smile and attended to promptly. The receptionist handed us two key cards and pointed out the Wi-Fi instructions written inside the key wallet. She indicated where breakfast would be available in the morning and that we we could help ourselves to complimentary hot drinks anytime we wished. As we were in need of a caffeine fix, we helped ourselves to a cappuccino each, relaxing in a cosy corner of the lobby to drink it.

The Room
We were staying in a Grand Studio Plus room so we stepped into one of the gleaming new lifts taking us to the 4th floor where our studio was to be found. Opening the door, we were pleasantly surprised to discover how spacious and light our room was, with floor to ceiling windows overlooking Rowntree Park and the river. I’d brought a friend along and the room had been made up with twin beds as requested. There was also a comfortable sofa, arm chair, dining table to seat four, and a dressing table/ work space.

A fully equipped kitchen had been cleverly designed, hidden away in the rear corner of the room behind the bed. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need and more with an induction hob, microwave grill, dishwasher, toaster and a large fridge. The cupboards were equipped with a range of high quality utensils, crockery, cutlery, glassware and pans. Helpful laminated cards explained how to use the appliances which is always helpful, especially when it comes to microwaves as they all seem to work differently.

The attractive bathroom came complete with a powerful rainfall shower head, a good supply of thick towels and White Company toiletries. My favourite thing about the bathroom was the underfloor heating, keeping my feet warm and cosy during the cold wintry weather.

Other room features included an iron and ironing board, hairdryer, large screen television, air conditioning and telephone. The high speed Wi-Fi was easy to connect to and downloaded my morning newspapers in hardly any time at all.

Dining
A complimentary Grab and Go breakfast is available to all guests between 6.30 – 10.30 a.m. and this can either be taken back to the room, eaten in the lounge area or popped into a paper bag to take away.

We went down for breakfast at around 8.30 a.m. and helped ourselves to freshly baked croissants, pastries, fresh fruit, yoghurts and coffee. There were also porridge sachets and small cartons of milk to make up quickly in the room.

As our studio came equipped with a kitchen and dining area we decided to eat in after a busy day of sightseeing. On the way back to the Aparthotel we called in Marks & Spencer stocking up on steaks, salad, wine and profiteroles to enjoy in our comfortable studio making it feel like a home from home.

The Facilities
Reception: The front desk is operated 24 hours daily and with key card entry to the building and rooms, it’s also very secure.

Coffee Shop: The Aparthotel has a Coffee Shop where light meals, snacks and cakes are available throughout the day and these can be enjoyed in the lobby lounge area or at outside tables overlooking the river.

Deli: Next to the coffee shop is the Essentialzzz Pantry stocking a good range of grocery items and ready meals just perfect for an evening in.

Gym: Although we didn’t use it ourselves, there’s a fully equipped gym with guest towels and cooled water. We felt we’d had enough exercise walking around the city centre and up and down steps on the city walls and in the museums!

Laundry: There are two laundry rooms, free of charge to hotel guests, both with Miele washing machines and tumbler dryers, ideal for anyone staying more than a few days.
Car Park: Underground car parking spaces are available to guests at an additional charge with direct lift access to and from the lobby.

Out and About
The hotel is ideally placed for exploring the historic sights and attractions of York. We enjoyed walking along the riverside path to the centre and never felt the need for the use of a car or public transport. The must see Castle Museum and Clifford’s Tower are both just a level 7 minute walk, whilst York Minster and The Shambles are 20 minutes away.

Overall
We were very impressed with our stay at Roomzzz York City with its peaceful riverside setting and easy access to city centre attractions and shopping. The Aparthotel offers the best of both worlds as it combines a fully serviced hotel room with the added luxury of additional dining and living areas. Not only that, with the benefit of a fully fitted kitchen, guests have the option of dining in or out as they please. The accommodation is perfect for both leisure, business travellers and families as many rooms sleep 4 guests.
